M I K E  K I N G

Mike King has been involved in the music industry for over 20 years since signing a record deal at the age of 17.  He has worked as a vocal coach on The Voice UK, helped smash a Guinness World Record by conducting 5,000 singers at Wembley Arena and directs choirs worldwide.  He was a lecturer at Goldsmiths University of London for 12 years and was a guest vocal tutor at the University of East London and London Metropolitan University.  He has worked with various international artists including multi-GRAMMY® winning singer Angelique Kidjo, GRAMMY® winning producer Jeff Bhasker (Kanye West, Beyonce, Bruno Mars, Rihanna), Mark Ronson, Boy George, Lily Allen and Florence Welch.

Mike has established himself as a talented vocal arranger and been commissioned to arrange songs for various choirs and projects including BBC Radio, the 2012 Olympic Games and the prestigious PFA Awards.  In 2017 he was asked to arrange and musical direct a live TV performance of David Bowie's 'Starman' for Stand Up To Cancer on Channel 4 and more recently to produce the Breathe Harmony NHS virtual choir single during the Covid-19 pandemic.

 

Mike's inspiring arrangements fuse the elements of jazz and soul and are the signature sound of his own collective, MKC, one of the UK’s premier vocal groups who were described as the ‘new wave in choir singing’ at the UK’s Choir of the Year.  

His love of bringing people together through singing is the foundation for many of Mike’s diverse projects.  Creating rich, emotive harmonies and inspiring singers to perform them to the highest standards is what shapes his success today whether enhancing the vision of an artist or artistic team or directing a community choir to raise funds for charity.  Mike has an extraordinary gift that enables all who cross his path to grow in confidence and make beautiful sounds.  His most recent clients have included:

As a songwriter, Mike received high acclaim for his composition ‘That’s When I Miss You The Most’ recorded and released by British jazz singer Lee Gibson and selected as ’Pick of the Week’ on BBC Radio 3.  His charity song, ‘Find Our Way’, recorded with his vocal collective, MKC, and children from an inner-city London school, debuted at number two in the Amazon Hot New Releases chart.

Mike has helped develop the careers of many artists, including those who have gone on to record and perform with the likes of John Legend, Beyonce and Rita Ora, and he continues to work with singers as a freelance vocal coach and vocal producer.  Mike also facilitates a variety of vocal workshops and masterclasses internationally as well as organising luxury singing holidays worldwide.
